Please find below more information about how to access that platform.

Access GatherTown with an invitation link

GatherTown allows you to join a 2D space to connect with other people. You can create your own avatar, move around, view the artwork, and, of course, talk to people.

We will test out this platform for our vernissage of the exhibition. Here you can find all information on how to use it.

How to access gathertown

The easiest way is to access GatherTown via your preferred web browser. If you like to, you can download the Desktop App on gather.town/download.

I will send you an invitation link to the event a couple of hours before the event starts.

How to set it up

Let’s assume that you do not have a GatherTown account. When you enter the invitation link, it will ask you to grant (temporary) access to the camera and microphone. This is necessary if you would like to be seen and heard.

Then, you can set up your avatar and give it a name!

I will have the name “Karim (@k_zanaty)”, including my Instagram handle. Feel free to name yourself as you like.

Move and interact

You can move you avatar with your keyboard (W, A, S, D or ←, ↑, →, ↓) or by double clicking on the place you want to go to.

When you are coming close to another person, you will see their camera video appearing and hear them.

When you click with your mouse on another avatar, you have several options to get in contact with them. For example, you can wave at them or follow them if they would like to show you something.

The main place to exchange is the park in the center. Every artist is represented with a poster. When you get near to a poster, it will state “Press X to interact”. This will open the poster of the artist you would like to see artwork from. The specific poster will change color from blue to orange (see screenshot). This is a copy of the artwork in the gallery to ease the direct exchange during the event!

In front of every poster is a separate break-out room. When you enter this space, a private chat will open, and you can only talk to people which are in this area as well. Given that, you can hop from poster to poster and discuss only about this specific board. Or about anything else.

General break-out rooms are available in the forest, the swimming pool, and on the red and blue carpets.

When you stand on the megaphone symbol, everybody can hear and see you independent if you are close to them or not.

Presentations

Presentations will be held in the Paleo Forest in the upper section of the room

Provide feedback

On the field, you will find several Bulletin boards. They allow you to provide anonymous feedback to the even. I would be happy to receive it from you! Just press “x” when you are near and the form will open.

Gallery

You can view the embedded gallery as well on the presentation boards (press “x” to interact):
