Virtual Gallery – General
What is a Virtual Gallery?
A virtual gallery as hosted on Kunstmatrix can be used to make art accessible for everyone in a 3D rendered place. On any device that can run a browser you can view the gallery.
I want to use this gallery to allow paleoartists to network and get to know all the styles that are out there.
Why is artwork exchanged after some time?
The exhibition is a permanent exhibition of contemporary paleoart. There are many paleoartists out there and spread all over the world. Like any other permanent exhibition, presented artwork is changed partially from time to time to show what all the artists have to show.
Why should I apply? I am not even an artist.
Every person who is creating anything is an artist to some extend. The gallery is open and explicitely asking for anyone to participate - from beginner to day-to-day artist.
What kind of artwork can I submit?
The following is possible:
- Drawings and Paintings
- Videos (e.g. animations)
- 3D models (preferrably as glb files, obj + mtl must be checked)
- Please check the appearance of your model here: https://sandbox.kunstmatrix.com/
- Text such as poetry, text panels, etc.
Does it cost anything to participate?
No - participating is free of charge for the artists.
Permanent Exhibition
What is the permanent exhibition?
The permanten exhibition of contemporary paleoart should be available 24 hours a day - 7 days a week. To keep the gallery active and engaging to visit, the participating artists will be exchanged every 8-10 weeks. In every round, the artwork of one specific virtual room will be changed. Depending on the room size, the number of open seats may vary in every round.
How many pieces can I submit?
Usually, up to five pieces are sufficient.
If you plan to submit fairly big ones, the number should be reduced to maximum three as they take a lot of space.
For smaller pieces, up to seven artworks can be sent.
If you have a bit more than 7 pieces but they must be hanged together, please get in touch (exhibit@extinctfineart) and we will find a suitable solution.
How long will my pieces be in the exhibition?
On the very first few cycles, the artwork of each artist is shown for eight to ten weeks. This cannot be applied on the first round of the exhibition as we need to enter a full cycle first.
Can I participate multiple times?
Of course! Especially when you are a very active artist or would like to show some project. Please consider that between two participations there must be a break of at least one exhibition cycle.
Can I change artwork while the exhibition is running?
Usually, you cannot add new artwork on top of the submitted ones. Changing or removing artwork, however, is possible. Please get in touch.
Special Exhibitions
What is a Special Exhibition?
A few times a year, special exhibitions are prepared and set up.
A special exhibition is more a themed exhibition to a specific event or topic such as book releases, panel discussion to up to date topics, workshops, etc. The presented artwork is directly affiliated with the topic but at least somehow related.
Every special exhibition will be opened with an online event with one or more speakers. The content of the exhibition is agreed on with the speaker.
Does the special exhibition cost anything?
The exhibition itself remains free as the permanent one. However, tickets must be purchased for the online events.
The ticketing system will be provided shortly as it is in progress.
Online events
How can I imagine these online events?
Online events are currently planned to happen on GatherTown to be accessible through any device without creating an account.
You will have an avatar to move across a map. You have the ability to chat with people either via text or via video-chats. Talks will happen at a specific place on the map where the speaker can share their screen and talk with everyone in that area.
All information about the platform are summarized here.
Which kind of online events are planned?
Two types of online events are planned:
- Meet-the-artist/Networking
- Special exhibition opening talk
Every cycle of the permanent exhibition is planned to start with a networking session. Participating artists can decide if they would like to attend a "show and tell" to present their artwork and motivation shortly to other attendees.
Special exhibitions will start with a talk which matches the topic of the special exhibition. They might be a talk with a Q&A with the speaker (according their availability).
What does it cost to attend the online events?
Networking events should be basically free with an option to donate when purchasing a ticket.
Online talks/presentations usually cost a fee with options to donate more when purchasing a ticket.
The donations will be used to cover the costs of hosting the online gallery as well as the event platform.
Note: Ticket prices can be higher for workshops or special talks as per requirements from the speaker.
Registration and Submitting Artwork
Why do I need to fill a register form?
Besides having an overview of the participants, the form includes the agreement to the Terms&Conditions and if shown artwork can be used on social media. Without the agreement, I am not able to show the artwork in the gallery as I need to make sure to use your data with your consent.
How can I submit my artwork?
At the end of the registration page you will find a file uploader. Pleaser enter your name or any other information so that I can assign the data to the correct person.
Alternatively, send the artwork via e-mail to exhibit@extinctfineart.com
I have trouble uploading my artwork.
If you encounter any issues with uploading your data using the upload firm, please get in contact to get that fixed as soon as possible. I have tested it thoroughly with data from 92kB up to 10MB. However, disruptions due to the internet connection or incompatibilities of the uploader with the latest plugin versions may appear.
Alternatively, please send the data via e-mail to exhibit@extinctfineart.com.
Can I add descriptions to my artwork?
Sure, please send the text to me and I will add it.
Can a link to my social media or website be placed alongside the artwork?
Sure, just enter it in the registration form and I will add it. However, only one link per artwork can be added.
I am doing 3D art, which data type is recommended to use?
The platform works best with glb files. You can have a look here, how they will turn out.
Also, obj + mtl files can be used. If you would like to use these, please send them directly to me to test them out. So far, no other artist has sent me obj+mtl files and I cannot give more information on that at this moment.
If you face issues because of your texture, the hosting platform recommends:
- texture shrink. A file size of 1024 by 1024 pixels will usually carry enough details not to blur but also won't create too much data, especially when more than 1 texture is used (for shading etc)
- limited dissolve as a measure to reduce the polygone count for unnecessary details
- compressing the mesh with an added modifier in 'edit mode' such as 'decimate'
